Most you probably use some sort of pressure reduce to protect your RV's water system from high city water pressure. If you purchased your water pressure reducer from an RV store it probably protects your RV water system just fine but, are you tired of taking forever to fill the coffee pot or trying to rinse off the soap when taking a showed with only a trickle of water coming out of the shower head. First of all water pressure is not the problem. Yes those RV pressure reducers do reduce the water pressure but they also significantly restrict the volume of water that can pass through them. The solution is a pressure regulator that was made to be used in home water systems. Below is a picture of my solution. 1. GE Water Filter which is optional, you really don't need it at all I just like knowing the water coming into my RV is filtered. Filter costs $50.00 from Home Depot. 2. Water Pressure Reducing Valve (1" Watts Regulator model LF N 45BU M1) This reducing valve was made for home use with an orifice opening of 3/4" instead of those RV regulators which only have an orifice opening of 3/8" or less. I bought the 1" model which costs $45.00 from Home Depot. The 3/4" model is $30.00. 3. A Pressure Gage which you need so you adjust the reducing valve. Most RV manufactures would like the water pressure to be between 40-50 PSI going into your RV. I have mine set for 40-42 PSI and I now get a lot more water out of my shower then when I had the little RV reducer. Cost $10.00 at again Home Depot.
This is the heart of the system, the Water Pressure Reducing Valve (1" Watts Regulator model LF N 45BU M1). There is a pressure adjustment screw on the top and it is very easy to adjust the pressure up or down.
Hears the pressure gage. It has a black and a red needle. The black needle shows the water pressure a any given time. The red needle will stay at whatever the highest pressure was over a period of time. The other nice thing about this gage is that it can be screwed onto any facet. This way you can check the city pressure before hooking up your RV.
This is the system all hooked up.
Hear is that pressure gage again, note what it reads 40 PSI. This is what I have my water pressure reducing valve set to.
I guarantee this type of system will improve the volume of water coming out of you facets and shower. It certainly made a difference in my RV. |
